Mercedes denies rumors of Hamilton’s final race

Mercedes has dismissed speculation that the F1 São Paulo Grand Prix might have been Lewis Hamilton’s last race with the team, following his cryptic radio message on Sunday.

The seven-time world champion had a challenging weekend, finishing in a disappointing 10th place. Hamilton struggled with the handling of his W15 and was once again baffled by his lack of one-lap pace. In an unusual twist, he also struggled in wet conditions—typically one of his strong suits.

After crossing the line, Hamilton made a puzzling comment over the team radio, saying, “That was a disaster of a weekend, guys. The worst the car has ever been. Thank you for contributing and great job to all the guys at the pit-stop. If this is the last time I get to perform, it’s a shame it wasn’t great, but I’m grateful for you.” His “if this is the last time” remark fueled speculation about his future with the team.

Following the race, Hamilton mentioned he was looking forward to a holiday. However, Mercedes confirmed to Sky that Hamilton will indeed drive in the season’s final three races in Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. Hamilton is expected to leave the team after the Yas Marina Circuit race, joining Ferrari in 2025.

The 39-year-old is unlikely to debut with Ferrari until 2025, potentially testing in an older model at the team’s Fiorano track.
